AI Engineer – Data

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential adtech organization seeking their first dedicated AI Engineer in the data team. This is a hands-on, build-and-ship role with unusually broad scope at the core of how the product works.

You will own the AI behind the rewards engine, building the next generation of reward design systems fully agentically. AI will analyze products, generate tailored offers, and evaluate them before they go live, replacing current inflexible design approaches.

You'll tackle open-ended AI problems end to end across data verticals, from payer structures to user acquisition and beyond. You'll take fuzzy "could AI help here?" problems, deeply understand the underlying business logic, and turn them into shipped agentic systems, working directly with Staff Data Scientists, the CTO, and leadership.

You'll build genuinely agentic systems including agents, pipelines, retrieval and evaluation. You'll decide where AI belongs and, just as importantly, where it doesn't. As the first dedicated AI Engineer, the patterns, tooling and judgement you set become how AI-fluent data scientists across the team work.

What We're Looking For

• Ownership mindset: You take AI problems from a vague brief to a shipped, working system without being asked
• Speed: You start before you're ready, ship the small test, and iterate against real data
• High standards: Your standards show up in the systems you ship, and you raise the bar for those around you
• Impact focus: You know when not to reach for AI, and can name the simpler thing you chose instead to protect what mattered most
• AI-native expertise: Agents, LLM pipelines, RAG and modern AI tooling are already part of how you build, and you can explain exactly how you've used them
• Real AI systems experience: You can code in Python, and you've shipped something genuinely agentic — an agent, an LLM pipeline, at minimum a real RAG system — that got used, with solid engineering or applied-ML foundations underneath
• Technical stack: Python (non-negotiable); modern LLM APIs and open models; agentic frameworks (LangChain/LangGraph/LlamaIndex); RAG and vector search; evaluation frameworks; BigQuery and SQL; cloud platforms (AWS/GCP)
• Bonus: Experience with adtech, marketplaces, recommendations/ranking, or high-scale consumer products

This role is based in Berlin with a 5-day-per-week in-office expectation. Relocation support is available.
