What This Role Involves

As a Transmission Planning Engineer or senior-level engineer at Xcelenergy, you'll engage in technical responsibilities in transmission system planning and analysis. Your work will directly impact the reliability and efficiency of our power infrastructure in and around Denver, Colorado. Whether you're a mid-level engineer or stepping into a senior role, you'll conduct complex power system studies, coordinate across teams, and help guide long-term transmission projects that serve our region's growing energy needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct transmission system studies and analyses to evaluate network performance and identify improvement opportunities
  • Develop and maintain transmission planning models and tools to support capital project decisions
  • Collaborate with operations, construction, and regulatory teams to coordinate network upgrades and expansions
  • Evaluate the impact of new generation, storage, and load on transmission infrastructure
  • Support compliance with regulatory standards and NERC requirements for transmission planning
  • Contribute to long-term transmission planning strategies and capital forecasting

Who We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, power systems, or related technical field
  • Professional experience in transmission planning, power system analysis, or electrical engineering
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to technical detail
  • Proficiency with power system modeling software and analysis tools
  • Knowledge of transmission system design, operation, and regulatory frameworks
  • Excellent communication skills to convey technical concepts to diverse stakeholders
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license or eligibility to obtain one is preferred
