Tech Lead Grower Experience (m/w/d)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential B2B SaaS client building digital infrastructure for a specialized industry sector in Europe. They are replacing fragmented manual processes with modern software that connects producers, buyers, and distributors on a single platform.

Our talent team is searching for a Tech Lead to take technical ownership of their browser-based application and backend services. You will build and lead a new engineering squad from the ground up, reporting directly to the CTO. This is not a traditional people management role—you will lead through technical depth, clear decision-making, and hands-on contribution while establishing the culture and direction for one of the most commercially important areas of the platform.

Responsibilities

• Own the architecture, technical quality, and evolution of the browser application and its backend services
• Build your squad from scratch, develop team members, and create a culture of ownership, pragmatism, and continuous learning
• Collaborate closely with product leadership to translate customer needs into sustainable technical solutions
• Ensure your team delivers software continuously, securely, and reliably—from technical specifications and API design through operations, incident management, and continuous improvement
• Take responsibility for performance, stability, security, and compliance; identify and address technical risks early
• Make architectural decisions within the constraints of the existing commerce platform, balancing framework conventions with custom solutions while maintaining long-term maintainability
• Use AI tools thoughtfully in daily engineering work and help your team adopt AI responsibly for development, testing, documentation, and code reviews
• Visit customers on-site regularly to test solutions in real operational environments

What We're Looking For

Required:

• Several years of experience as a Tech Lead or Senior Engineer in web, ERP, warehouse, or e-commerce systems
• Strong practical experience with TypeScript in microservice architectures and React/Vite on the frontend
• Experience with API-first or spec-first development
• Hands-on experience with AWS cloud infrastructure (AWS Lambda), modern deployment processes (AWS CDK), and monitoring
• Previous experience building teams and understanding what matters in team development
• Genuine interest in both product development (software) and team development (people)
• Self-directed work style, clear communication, high quality standards
• Fluent German and very good English

Nice to Have:

• Experience with PostgreSQL or DocumentDB
• Experience with PHP or commerce platform frameworks
• Experience with complex order, pricing, or inventory/catalogue processes
• Background in a startup or fast-growing technology company

The role is hybrid in Cologne, Germany, with regular customer visits required. This position begins as a contract through an intermediary and transitions to the client organization.
