About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential AI technology company based in Germany that is building production-grade AI platforms for enterprise clients. While others are still demonstrating prototypes, their customers are already working with live systems – processing their data, following their rules, hosted in Germany.

As a Senior Fullstack Engineer, you'll own core features and architecture across the entire stack, from retrieval systems to frontend interfaces. You'll work with modern AI tooling as part of your daily workflow and have genuine autonomy to shape both technical direction and product outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Design and scale distributed systems and microservices with focus on maintainability, stability, and long-term sustainability
• Build AI features that perform in production environments – RAG-based knowledge systems, departmental AI applications, voice interfaces, translation, and analytics functions
• Develop across the full stack: performant APIs, database modeling, and modern frontend interfaces from retrieval layer to user experience
• Model data for multi-tenancy and role-based permissions ensuring proper access control through AI interfaces, implementing encryption, data minimization, and auditability from the start
• Establish observability for AI features in production – evaluation frameworks, monitoring, and guardrails to maintain platform stability and efficiency as usage scales
• Evolve existing systems, create clear structures, and reduce technical debt strategically where it matters most
• Work with coding assistants and agents beyond autocomplete, test new tools and workflows early, and establish team standards for AI-assisted development
• Collaborate closely with product owners, UX designers, and consultants to translate customer use cases into technical solutions
• Mentor junior developers through code reviews and make technical decisions transparent across the team

What We're Looking For

• At least 5 years developing complex software systems, ideally in AI, SaaS, or cloud environments
• Strong TypeScript skills and experience with Node.js, ideally with frameworks like NestJS
• Solid understanding of software architecture for distributed systems – microservices, API design, scaling patterns
• Frontend experience with frameworks like Vue.js and understanding of full-stack integration
• Strong database skills (PostgreSQL or similar) including data modeling and performance optimization
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS or similar), Docker, and operating SaaS applications
• Daily use of AI-assisted development tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, or similar) with understanding of their limitations and critical evaluation of generated code
• Active experimentation with new tools, models, and workflows – experience with agentic setups, cloud-based coding agents, MCP integrations, or automated reviews is a strong plus
• Deeper understanding of modern AI/LLM concepts such as RAG, function calling, embeddings, or agents
• Clean code practices, testing discipline, and experience with code reviews and mentoring
• Ability to make technical decisions and defend them clearly in both German and English
• Experience with GDPR, ISO 27001, or EU AI Act compliance is a plus

What matters most: Taking ownership, thinking about the product holistically, constructively challenging requirements, and making technical decisions you can justify two years later – pragmatically balanced between perfection and speed. You'll design architecture in the morning, review pull requests at midday, develop features in the afternoon, and advance the team's capabilities throughout.

Location & Work Arrangement

This position is remote within Germany. The client also maintains a modern office in Offenburg for those who prefer hybrid arrangements.
