Freelance Senior QA Engineer (Mobile)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential fintech client seeking a Freelance Senior QA Engineer (Mobile) based in Berlin. This role focuses on testing mobile point-of-sale applications for Android and iOS, working with hardware integrations including card payment terminals, receipt printers, and barcode scanners.

You will be responsible for building and maintaining test automation infrastructure, designing comprehensive test plans, and ensuring seamless functionality across multiple platforms and devices. This is a hybrid position requiring in-office presence twice weekly for hands-on device testing.

Responsibilities

• Architect, develop, and maintain test automation using Sauce Labs, primarily with TypeScript and Webdriver.io
• Design and maintain test plans for existing and new application features, integrating them with Xray and Jira
• Execute, maintain, and improve test cases in Xray, enhancing workflow integration
• Test configurations involving peripheral hardware such as card payment terminals, receipt printers, and barcode scanners
• Test inter-device communication between multiple applications, including customer-facing displays and hospitality helper applications
• Develop and maintain cross-team test scenarios, including API communication and database operations
• Actively leverage AI tools in daily QA tasks to explore innovative testing solutions
• Collaborate with developers and product owners to achieve optimal end-to-end multiplatform test coverage and realistic customer experience scenarios
• Participate in code reviews to uphold coding standards and improve code quality
• Execute tests across various environments to ensure robustness and compatibility
• Manage release testing and communication processes

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

• Ability to work from the Berlin office twice weekly for in-office device testing
• 4+ years of professional experience in mobile application testing (iOS and Android)
• Experience in test automation using TypeScript and platforms such as Sauce Labs, Appium, or similar
• Experience with test case design, including designing test plans and following industry standards
• Strong knowledge of data structures and databases, particularly PostgreSQL and SQLite
• Solid understanding of different API types and experience testing them using tools such as Postman
• Experience testing hardware devices and inter-device communication
• Experience in release management and communication
• Structured mindset with a proactive approach to test planning ahead of development
• Experience writing automated tests and defining test scenarios throughout the development lifecycle

Preferred experience:

• Background in the fintech or payment industry, retail, or point-of-sale systems
• Experience with Playwright and Selenoid

Technical environment: TypeScript, Webdriver.io, Sauce Labs, Xray, Jira, Java-based tooling, PostgreSQL, SQLite, Postman
