Commercial Lead – Clinical Trials

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential healthcare technology organization that is transforming how clinical trials are conducted. Our client is seeking a Commercial Lead - Clinical Trials to build and own their clinical trials business from the ground up. This is a senior individual contributor role based in London that requires someone who operates like a founder—making strategic decisions, opening doors, and driving revenue independently.

You will develop the market strategy, build relationships with senior decision-makers across sponsors, CROs, and research sites, and secure early customers. Your deep understanding of the clinical trials ecosystem will directly inform product development and shape a repeatable route to market.

Responsibilities

• Develop the market thesis by mapping the clinical trials ecosystem, testing opportunities, and recommending where to focus time and capital
• Lead customer development by building direct relationships with senior decision-makers across pharmaceutical companies, biotechnology firms, CROs, trial sites, and health systems
• Own early commercial outcomes including pipeline development, securing design partners and paid programs, and driving initial revenue
• Shape the commercial proposition including target customer definition, value proposition, pricing, packaging, and proof of value
• Bring evidence from customers and clinical workflows to inform product development priorities
• Navigate complex buying processes in life sciences organizations, understanding vendor evaluation, budget allocation, procurement, and compliance requirements
• Build the delivery model by working cross-functionally to make early programs successful and repeatable
• Create the route to scale by determining which partnerships, channels, proof points, and capabilities are needed to grow beyond founder-led selling
• Represent the organization and build credibility with customers, partners, and industry networks

What We're Looking For

Required Experience:

• Deep experience in the clinical trials industry through pharmaceutical/biotechnology companies, CROs, trial technology businesses, research networks, or closely related organizations
• Strong understanding of how clinical trials are funded, sold, bought, and delivered, including the incentives and constraints of sponsors, CROs, and research sites
• Proven track record of building revenue, partnerships, a business line, or a company in the sector with demonstrable results you personally originated
• Senior commercial credibility with the ability to engage industry executives, diagnose business problems, and move relationships toward concrete commitments
• Sound judgment to operate in regulated environments while respecting Good Clinical Practice, patient consent, privacy, and data integrity
• Independence to create structure, make decisions, and produce results without established playbooks or large supporting teams

Valuable Additional Strengths:

• Experience as a founder, early executive, or leader who created a new clinical trials business or commercial proposition
• Strong network across pharmaceutical companies, biotechnology firms, CROs, research sites, health systems, investigators, or patient organizations
• Experience across multiple sides of the ecosystem (sponsor and site, CRO and technology, clinical practice and commercial delivery)
• Background selling enterprise software, technology-enabled services, recruitment programs, or data products to life sciences organizations
• Product fluency and ability to translate market evidence into actionable guidance for product and engineering teams
• Familiarity with clinical research systems such as CTMS, EDC, eConsent, ePRO, trial registries, and EHR/EMR integrations
• Clinical or scientific qualifications that strengthen credibility
• Experience with UK, Australian, or comparable clinical research markets
