About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential open-source software organization in their search for a Devices & IoT Field Engineering Manager. This is a globally remote leadership role focused on building and managing a regionally-focused team of field engineers who work on presales and professional services activities in the embedded Linux and IoT space.

Our client enables organizations to build secure, connected device fleets with enterprise-grade operating systems and long-term support mechanisms. Their customers develop mission-critical control systems, industrial gateways, and next-generation appliances that require exceptional security and reliability standards.

As the manager, you'll lead a distributed team across a single major geographic region (Americas, EMEA, or APAC), helping customers architect solutions, guiding presales technical engagements, and delivering professional services. This role combines hands-on embedded Linux expertise with people leadership—you'll mentor engineers ranging from graduate to senior level while serving as a trusted technical advisor to customers navigating complex IoT implementations.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop a geographically distributed team of field engineers across presales and professional services functions
• Plan, prioritize, and drive progress on team goals, customer projects, and technical initiatives
• Partner with leadership across product, engineering, and go-to-market teams
• Coach and mentor team members, providing career development feedback and fostering technical excellence
• Serve as a trusted technical advisor to customers, helping them architect secure embedded Linux and IoT solutions
• Implement disciplined engineering processes and team health metrics
• Represent your team to stakeholders, partners, and customers in technical and business discussions
• Provide market and customer feedback to product and engineering teams to inform roadmap decisions
• Champion organizational best practices and continuous improvement across the field engineering function
• Manage customer engagements end-to-end, ensuring successful technical outcomes and customer satisfaction

What We're Looking For

• Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or equivalent technical foundation
• Extensive hands-on experience with embedded Linux (Yocto or similar build systems)
• Deep Linux expertise, particularly with Debian-based distributions
• Proven ability to manage and develop technical teams
• Demonstrated success in customer-facing technical roles (presales, consulting, or field engineering)
• Exceptional written and spoken English communication skills
• Strong interpersonal skills with curiosity, flexibility, and accountability
• Results-oriented mindset with a track record of meeting commitments
• Ability to translate technical capabilities into clear business benefits for customers
• Humble learner who adapts quickly to new technologies and business contexts
• Willingness to travel internationally twice yearly for team meetings (up to two weeks per trip)
• Strong academic track record demonstrating consistent achievement

Desirable but not required: RTOS experience, additional programming or human languages, previous experience in remote-first distributed organizations, IoT device management platforms, or secure boot and update mechanisms.
