About This Opportunity
We are representing a confidential automotive services organization in their search for a Manager, SOX Compliance to support second line oversight activities. This role will be instrumental in managing material weakness remediation activities and strengthening the SOX governance framework through disciplined execution and stakeholder engagement.
Our client is seeking someone who can work effectively with control owners, process leaders, IT stakeholders, and audit teams to improve control quality, evidence standards, and remediation progress across the organization.
Responsibilities
- Manage SOX workstreams, remediation initiatives, control readiness activities, and governance routines in alignment with remediation priorities
- Review control design, control narratives, risk and control matrices, flowcharts, key report documentation, completeness and accuracy procedures, and management review control evidence
- Partner with first line control owners to clarify control expectations, support root cause analysis, remediate deficiencies, and prepare for walkthroughs and testing
- Perform quality reviews over control evidence and remediation support to ensure documentation is complete, precise, repeatable, and audit-ready
- Track deficiency remediation progress, identify slippage or recurring themes, escalate risks, and prepare status updates for leadership and governance forums
- Support quarterly certification activities, prepare inputs for deficiency evaluation, assist with control owner training, and contribute to management reporting
- Advise on control implications of process redesign, system changes, automation opportunities, and evolving business processes
- Promote stronger ownership, accountability, and consistency across decentralized or evolving finance and operational control environments
What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Information Systems, or related field
- 6+ years of experience in SOX, internal controls, audit, risk advisory, controllership, or public company compliance
- Strong working knowledge of SOX 404, COSO, ICFR concepts, deficiency evaluation support, remediation tracking, and external audit expectations
- Experience reviewing or testing controls across financial close, journal entries, account reconciliations, revenue, procure-to-pay, order-to-cash, treasury, payroll, inventory, or IT-dependent processes
- Ability to challenge control owners constructively, drive issue resolution, and communicate control risks in a clear, practical, and business-oriented manner
- Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines, stakeholders, evidence requests, and remediation milestones
Preferred Qualifications:
- CPA, CIA, CISA, or equivalent certification
- Experience supporting SOX remediation in a public company or accelerated control transformation environment
- Public accounting, internal audit, risk advisory, or controllership background
- ERP and EPM expertise (Oracle, NetSuite, FCCS, ARCS)
- Experience working with decentralized control environments, shared services, or multi-location operations
