Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential nonprofit journalism organization seeking a working student to support their international press freedom initiative. In this role, you will:

  • Support journalists with editorial preparation, research, and fact-checking of their contributions
  • Assist with translation and linguistic editing of texts from English to German, ensuring journalistic and stylistic quality
  • Conduct independent research on topics related to press freedom and international journalism
  • Support verification of sources, data, and facts for publications
  • Contribute to preparation and follow-up of talk formats, workshops, and events (1-2 evenings per month in Berlin)
  • Maintain close contact with the media community to understand and support their journalistic needs

What We're Looking For

  • Currently enrolled at a university or college (valid enrollment certificate required)
  • Native-level German proficiency (written and spoken) and very strong English skills (minimum C1 level); additional languages are a plus
  • Initial practical experience in journalism or editorial work through internships, freelance work, university publications, or your own published articles, research, or features
  • Experience with or strong interest in fact-checking and journalistic verification work
  • Precise and careful work habits with strong instincts for journalistic rigor and source criticism
  • Intercultural sensitivity and interest in working with international media communities
  • Motivation to actively contribute to press freedom and democratic values
  • Available for 15-20 hours per week (maximum 80 hours per month)
