Multimodal ML Engineer

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential AI safety organization seeking a Multimodal ML Engineer to join their technical team in Paris. In this role, you will:

• Train and fine-tune large-scale multimodal models across vision-language, audio, speech, and video modalities from scratch and from pretrained checkpoints
• Design experiments, build multimodal data pipelines, and train mixture-of-experts architectures
• Build alignment pipelines including supervised fine-tuning, direct preference optimization, and reinforcement learning methods
• Optimize models for production deployment through quantization, distillation, and streaming techniques
• Define and implement evaluation metrics that directly support product objectives
• Deploy end-to-end multimodal systems at scale

What We're Looking For

Our client requires candidates with demonstrated expertise in production multimodal ML:

• 3+ years of experience training large-scale multimodal models in production environments
• Strong PyTorch skills and distributed training experience with frameworks like DeepSpeed or FSDP
• Deep familiarity with multimodal architectures for vision-language, audio, and speech tasks
• Hands-on experience with reinforcement learning from human feedback and alignment techniques across multiple modalities, including reward modeling and preference optimization
• Both audio and video experience required – including sequence modeling, large-scale dataset curation, and production inference optimization for each modality
• Relocation to Paris required for hybrid work arrangement

Bonus qualifications:

• Audio signal processing fundamentals including spectrograms, mel features, and noise reduction
• Experience with mixture-of-experts architectures
