Cloud Platform Engineer (m/w/d)

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential technology organization building a sovereign cloud infrastructure platform within German data centers. This is a true platform engineering role with architectural ownership.

You will design, build, and evolve a self-hosted, cloud-native multi-cluster environment based on the SUSE stack (Harvester, RKE2). Each tenant receives dedicated Kubernetes clusters deployed and managed via Fleet, with isolated customer environments running mission-critical workloads for highly regulated industries.

Platform Development & Architecture:

• Architect and implement highly available Kubernetes clusters including networking, storage, load balancing, and authentication
• Design and evolve the tenant isolation model with full lifecycle responsibility
• Develop high-availability concepts including distributed in-memory approaches across nodes for real-time application capability
• Collaborate with development teams on performance and availability requirements

Automation & Standardization:

• Build GitOps workflows using ArgoCD and Fleet for automated provisioning through Day-2 operations
• Implement Infrastructure as Code with Ansible, Terraform, or comparable tooling
• Establish Policy as Code for security and governance
• Integrate and standardize CI/CD deployment processes

Enablement & Collaboration:

• Enable internal teams through platform engineering: self-service capabilities, standards definition, onboarding support
• Support development teams migrating workloads to the cloud platform
• Process operational insights (monitoring data, incidents) to continuously improve stability, security, and performance

What We're Looking For

Required Experience:

• Several years in cloud/platform engineering, container technologies, or infrastructure automation
• Deep Kubernetes expertise, ideally from operating production multi-cluster environments
• Hands-on experience with GitOps workflows (ArgoCD or Fleet preferred) and Infrastructure as Code (Ansible, Terraform)
• Professional-level German proficiency (C1 minimum) and strong English skills
• Willingness to travel for client meetings and multi-site coordination

Preferred Background:

• Experience with SUSE stack or comparable Kubernetes management platforms
• Knowledge of DevSecOps, Policy as Code, or high-availability architectures
• Familiarity with monitoring stacks such as Prometheus and Grafana
