People Operations Lead – Europe

About This Opportunity

We are representing a well-funded fintech company operating across multiple emerging markets. Our client is building critical financial infrastructure to support cross-border trade and has scaled to approximately 100 employees across 10 countries. They're backed by leading venture capital firms and are experiencing rapid growth.

We're seeking an experienced People Operations Lead to be based in Paris and own the People Ops function across France and additional global offices. This is a high-ownership role for someone who thrives in fast-moving environments and is ready to build scalable systems rather than simply execute existing processes.

Responsibilities

French Employment Law & Compliance Ownership

• Serve as the internal subject matter expert on French employment law, including contracts, works council obligations, terminations, leave entitlements, and statutory requirements
• Own compliance documentation and ensure employment practices in France are current, accurate, and audit-ready
• Partner with Legal to navigate complex employment situations across multiple markets
• Stay ahead of regulatory changes and translate them into practical process updates

People Operations

• Own the end-to-end employee lifecycle for direct employees and assigned EOR markets—onboarding, offboarding, contracts, payroll inputs, and benefits coordination
• Build and maintain SOPs, templates, and playbooks that enable consistent, compliant People Ops delivery at scale
• Manage EOR partner relationships across markets, identifying issues early and holding vendors to high standards
• Serve as a trusted point of contact for employees on all People matters with clear, empathetic, solutions-oriented communication

Process Design & Improvement

• Identify operational gaps and own the improvement initiatives
• Lead or contribute to cross-functional People Ops projects such as HRIS improvements, onboarding revamps, and policy rollouts
• Maintain high-quality People data and documentation across systems

Culture & Employee Experience

• Support team gatherings, market visits, and offsites that connect the distributed team
• Champion an outstanding employee experience from Day 0 onwards

What We're Looking For

Must-Have Requirements:

• 6+ years in People Operations or HR, with meaningful time spent in a scaleup or startup environment
• Strong working knowledge of French employment law—comfortable operating without a lawyer in the room for day-to-day questions
• Proven ability to own People Ops processes end-to-end with limited oversight
• Comfortable building structure in ambiguous environments
• Excellent communication skills; direct, clear, and appropriately warm with employees at all levels
• Fluent in French and English (written and spoken)
• Based in Paris with the ability to work from the office regularly

Nice-to-Have Qualifications:

• Experience supporting People Ops across African markets
• Hands-on experience managing EOR partners and multi-jurisdiction compliance
• Familiarity with HRIS tools such as Deel, RemotePass, Ashby, and Google Workspace
• Experience designing or owning compensation or levelling frameworks
• Multilingual beyond French and English with cultural fluency across multiple regions

Success After 6 Months:

• French employment compliance is watertight and you are the go-to expert the team trusts
• New hires report a consistently smooth, well-organized onboarding experience
• At least 2 People Ops processes have been materially improved—documented, owned, and running better than when you arrived
• Managers rely on you as a proactive partner, not a reactive resource
• You have built strong working relationships with internal stakeholders across Finance and Legal

Compensation details will be discussed during the screening process and are competitive within the fintech scaleup market for this level of experience. Our client offers share options and comprehensive health benefits in addition to base salary.

This is a full-time position based in Paris, France.
