AI Applied Researcher

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential defense technology organization based in Paris that is building advanced autonomous systems for maritime security. This is a founding-team opportunity to lead AI research and deployment for real-world underwater perception systems.

As an AI Applied Researcher, you will architect and deploy multimodal perception models that run on distributed autonomous hardware in challenging physical environments. This role combines cutting-edge research with immediate real-world validation.

Responsibilities

• Design, train, and deploy state-of-the-art multimodal acoustic models for underwater detection, classification, and localization
• Build end-to-end training pipelines including self-supervised pre-training on large unlabeled acoustic datasets and task-specific fine-tuning
• Fuse acoustic, kinematic, and sensor modalities into unified representations that perform in low signal-to-noise ratio conditions
• Define data capture and curation strategies that transform field operations into competitive technical advantages
• Optimize and distill models for edge deployment on compute- and power-constrained autonomous hardware
• Iterate rapidly based on field trial results and real-world failure cases

What We're Looking For

• Proven track record training and deploying production models, ideally on audio, signal processing, time-series, or non-image modalities
• Physical-AI experience: you have worked where models meet messy sensor data and real hardware constraints, not just clean benchmarks
• Strong instinct for data strategy and building data flywheels as core model components
• Comfortable across the full ML stack: data engineering, architecture design, training infrastructure, evaluation, and deployment
• Bias toward shipping and measuring success by real-world performance
• Bonus: background in signal processing, defense, maritime systems, robotics, or autonomous vehicles
