About This Opportunity

We are representing a prestigious French engineering research institution in the Hauts-de-France region for a 13-month postdoctoral research position in thermal energy systems and fluid mechanics. Our client operates advanced laboratory facilities dedicated to energy transition and decarbonization technologies.

This role focuses on validating passive heat transfer intensification techniques in phase-change thermal storage systems. You will work with a unique high-temperature experimental platform, completing its instrumentation and conducting performance characterization campaigns. The position offers significant autonomy in research execution while collaborating with an established team.

Responsibilities

• Complete final commissioning of a regional-scale experimental thermal testing platform
• Enhance instrumentation systems and data acquisition chains for thermal characterization
• Design and execute experimental campaigns to evaluate passive heat transfer enhancement solutions in phase-change materials
• Analyze experimental data and compare results against numerical models developed by the laboratory
• Contribute to optimization of studied geometries for thermal storage applications
• Prepare publications for international journals and present findings at scientific conferences
• Participate in technology transfer activities and valorization initiatives with industry partners
• Document experimental protocols and maintain detailed records of testing procedures

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications:

• PhD in energy systems, thermal sciences, fluid mechanics, or closely related discipline
• Strong theoretical foundation in heat transfer and fluid mechanics
• Demonstrated experience designing and implementing scientific experiments
• Proficiency with scientific instrumentation, data acquisition systems, and experimental data processing
• Ability to conduct research projects independently while working effectively in team environments
• Excellent scientific writing skills and strong command of English for academic communication

Valued Additional Experience:

• Familiarity with numerical simulation tools (CFD or thermal modeling software)
• Background in heat exchangers, thermal energy storage, phase-change materials, or thermal instrumentation
• Prior postdoctoral or industrial research experience in energy systems

Contract: 13-month fixed-term contract (CDD), anticipated start December 2026
