Responsibilities
We are representing a confidential research organization in the renewable energy sector for a postdoctoral researcher position focused on concentrated solar power and thermal transfers. Working within a multidisciplinary team, you will:
- Develop a thermal model to simulate solar receiver losses coupled with flux distribution modeling to estimate energy production via Monte Carlo methods (approximately 13 months). This includes creating an advection-diffusion model for thermal loss calculations accounting for fluid flow in the solar receiver tube, implementing solutions in specialized simulation software with developer support, building solar flux incident models, and performing temporal integration for annual production calculations
- Conduct experimental measurements of thermal losses on solar receiver prototypes (approximately 2 months), including field trials at an industrial partner site and laboratory testing at higher temperatures, then validate results against thermal model predictions
- Evaluate environmental impacts through Life Cycle Assessment of this innovative renewable heating solution compared to current fossil fuel alternatives (approximately 3 months), establishing industrial and experimental data inventories, creating representative material and energy balances, and calculating environmental impacts
- Disseminate research findings through conference presentations and peer-reviewed publications
- Perform occasional experimental work at remote installation sites requiring travel by car or train
What We're Looking For
Our client seeks a candidate with:
- Required: PhD in energy process engineering or related field obtained within the last 3 years
- Required: Demonstrated experience in thermal transfer modeling and simulation with hands-on experimental skills
- Required: Proficiency in a programming language, ideally C, and familiarity with git version control
- Required: Strong background in thermal transfers and energy systems
- Required: Fluency in English for technical communication and publication
- Scientific rigor in research methodology and technical writing
- Collaborative approach to team-based research projects
- Willingness to work on both computational modeling and experimental validation
This 18-month fixed-term contract is based in Albi, Occitanie, France. The position offers 49 days of annual leave, on-site cafeteria, sustainable mobility support, and comprehensive social benefits including enhanced health coverage and family assistance.
