About This Opportunity
We are representing a confidential defense technology organization based in Munich, Germany. They are developing next-generation autonomous air defense systems and need a talented Radio & Data Link Systems Engineer to join their mission-critical team.
In this role, you will own the integration, configuration, and performance optimization of radio and data link systems for interceptor UAVs operating in dynamic and congested RF environments. Your work will ensure robust command & control, telemetry, data streaming, and cooperative multi-UAV operations across complex network topologies. You will work hands-on with hardware, participate in flight tests, and continuously improve system performance from lab bench to operational deployment.
Responsibilities
- Integrate and optimize radio and data link systems including WLAN, LTE/5G, proprietary MIMO, and UHF/VHF technologies
- Configure, flash, and operate radios, flight controllers, and ground stations
- Design and validate mesh and multi-node network topologies with multiple UAVs, ground control stations, and operators
- Analyze and improve link performance metrics such as latency, throughput, reliability, and recovery
- Perform link budget analysis and support antenna & RF integration efforts
- Support ground and flight testing activities, including on-site troubleshooting in the field
- Manage system configurations, interfaces, and change control processes
- Ensure regulatory and licensing compliance with ETSI/FCC standards and spectrum usage requirements
- Contribute to system architecture development and participate in cross-functional design reviews
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, Embedded Systems, Physics (RF focus), or comparable technical field
- 3–7+ years of hands-on experience in radio, data link, or wireless system integration
- Strong understanding of wireless protocols, RF behavior, and network performance characteristics
- Practical experience with mesh networking, MANETs, or multi-node wireless systems
- Proficiency with Linux-based systems, Python scripting, and C/C++ programming
- Solid electronics and embedded systems experience
- Familiarity with PX4, ArduPilot, or comparable UAV flight stacks
- Strong debugging skills across hardware, firmware, and networking layers
- Experience with UAV, aerospace, or defense systems is a plus
- Experience with SDR platforms, PHY/MAC-level concepts, or secure communications is a plus
- Experience with radar technology is a plus
- Authorization to work in Germany; security clearance requirements may apply
