Senior Software Engineer

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential technology client seeking a Senior Software Engineer for a remote contract role (approximately 15 hours per week, globally distributed). This is a unique opportunity to contribute your technical expertise to next-generation AI training initiatives without requiring prior AI experience—your software engineering domain knowledge is what matters most.

In this role, you'll design and build reinforcement learning environments that evaluate AI model performance across complex software engineering workflows. Think DevOps pipelines, CI/CD automation, and debugging scenarios using tools like git, Docker, gdb, ASAN, ffmpeg, and similar command-line utilities. You'll create reproducible test environments alongside golden reference solutions that measure how well models handle real-world engineering challenges.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement reinforcement learning test environments that simulate complex software engineering workflows
• Create reproducible scenarios covering DevOps, CI/CD, and debugging use cases with common CLI tooling
• Develop golden reference solutions that serve as benchmarks for model evaluation
• Apply expertise in algorithms, data structures, and performance optimization to environment design
• Debug complex technical issues within test scenarios to ensure accuracy and reliability
• Deliver maintainable, well-documented code that meets project specifications
• Meet minimum weekly submission requirements for completed tasks
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams in a fully remote setting

What We're Looking For

Required:

• Proficiency in one or more of: C++, Python, Java, GoLang, TypeScript, or Rust
• Deep understanding of algorithms, data structures, and performance tuning principles
• Demonstrated experience debugging complex software issues and delivering maintainable solutions
• Strong background in feature development and codebase refactoring
• Proven ability to optimize software for performance and scalability
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with keen attention to detail
• Track record of success in collaborative, cross-functional teams, ideally in remote environments
• Availability to start within 24–48 hours of completing onboarding

Preferred:

• Experience working on large-scale, distributed codebases
• Familiarity with modern AI or machine learning systems (not required)
• Background participating in rigorous code reviews and contributing to software best practices

Pay

Compensation structure: This is an output-based compensation model where you are paid per task that meets project specifications. The time required to complete work varies based on your experience and workflow efficiency. Minimum weekly submission requirements apply.
