IT System Engineer Linux (m/w/d)

Responsibilities

We are representing a public-sector media organization in Munich seeking an IT System Engineer with Linux expertise. In this role, you will maintain and evolve a heterogeneous IT infrastructure while gradually taking on architectural and design responsibilities.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Administering, operating, and developing Linux-based server environments across multiple distributions
• Managing central infrastructure services and containerized applications
• Supporting the evolution of server, virtualization, network, and container infrastructure
• Designing and maintaining monitoring, backup, and recovery solutions
• Analyzing and resolving incidents within server, network, and application environments
• Providing technical guidance for infrastructure, migration, and digitalization projects
• Creating and maintaining technical documentation, operations manuals, and architecture overviews
• Progressively assuming additional technical and architectural ownership

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

• Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or IT vocational training (Fachinformatiker Systemintegration) or equivalent qualification
• Practical experience administering and supporting IT infrastructures
• Strong knowledge operating Linux servers with at least one major distribution (Ubuntu, AlmaLinux, or similar)
• Experience with common server services and container technologies such as Docker
• Foundational knowledge in virtualization, networking, and IT security
• Willingness to learn diverse technical platforms and complex system landscapes
• Structured, independent, and solution-oriented working style
• Strong communication and documentation skills
• Fluent German and good technical English

Preferred experience:

• Automation using Ansible, Bash, Python, or PowerShell
• Infrastructure-as-Code and Git-based operational processes
• Monitoring solutions like Zabbix, Icinga, or Prometheus
• Networking fundamentals: TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLAN, routing, and firewalling
• Reverse proxies, web servers, and load balancers
• Monitoring, backup, patch management, and system hardening
• Storage, database, and high-availability solutions
• Microsoft Windows Server, Active Directory, and Microsoft 365
• Hybrid cloud and on-premises architectures
• Network segmentation and modern security architectures
