Senior Design Director – Digital Infrastructure & Mission Critical Facilities

About This Opportunity

Our talent team is representing a confidential infrastructure consulting organization seeking a Senior Design Director to lead complex digital infrastructure and mission-critical facility programs across the United States. This is a remote executive role requiring strong technical leadership and client-facing expertise in hyperscale data centers, telecommunications networks, and utility infrastructure.

We are looking for a seasoned professional who can guide multidisciplinary teams through all project phases—from site selection and design through construction and commissioning. You'll serve as both a technical leader and trusted advisor to major technology providers, utilities, and infrastructure developers.

Responsibilities

• Lead integrated design teams across architecture, civil, structural, MEP, telecommunications, environmental, and commissioning disciplines for large-scale infrastructure programs
• Direct the planning and delivery of AI infrastructure campuses, mission-critical facilities, cable landing stations, network operations centers, and utility/power infrastructure
• Manage program scope, budget, schedule, quality, and risk from concept through operational readiness
• Conduct technical design reviews and facilitate executive stakeholder workshops
• Serve as executive-level client lead, building relationships with hyperscale providers, utilities, developers, and public agencies
• Support strategic account growth, business development, and major proposal efforts
• Oversee procurement, contractor coordination, and construction administration activities
• Mentor project managers, design managers, and technical leaders while building high-performing teams
• Travel domestically and internationally for client meetings, site assessments, design workshops, and construction milestones

What We're Looking For

Required:

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or related field
• 8+ years managing complex infrastructure, telecommunications, mission-critical, utility, or data center projects
• Proven experience leading multidisciplinary teams and coordinating multiple stakeholders
• Demonstrated success managing project budgets, schedules, and client relationships
• Currently authorized to work in the United States (sponsorship not available)

Preferred:

• Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent credential
• Experience with data centers, telecommunications facilities, broadband networks, fiber infrastructure, or submarine cable systems
• Knowledge of cable landing stations, dark fiber networks, carrier-neutral facilities, or long-haul communications infrastructure
• International project experience and work with geographically distributed teams
• Familiarity with permitting, environmental compliance, utility coordination, and regulatory processes
• Proficiency with BIM/Revit, Civil 3D, Bluebeam, GIS, or related platforms
• Strong business development, proposal management, and client engagement background
• Track record of mentoring staff and developing high-performing teams
