Substance Use – Adolescent Addiction Specialist

About This Opportunity

Our talent team is representing a confidential healthcare technology organization seeking experienced Substance Use and Adolescent Addiction Specialists for remote contract work. This role centers on applying your clinical expertise to assess adolescent substance use cases and provide structured clinical guidance on risk stratification, severity staging, and appropriate interventions. Your domain knowledge will directly support advanced technology training initiatives—no prior AI or machine learning experience is required.

Responsibilities

• Review detailed clinical case material involving adolescent substance use and produce comprehensive written assessments covering risk level, severity classification, and urgency of intervention
• Apply established clinical frameworks including DSM-5 substance use disorder criteria and ASAM placement criteria to stage severity and recommend appropriate levels of care
• Evaluate the clinical safety and appropriateness of proposed treatment interventions, including pharmacological approaches when applicable
• Differentiate between developmentally typical adolescent experimentation and clinically significant substance use patterns requiring intervention
• Identify and flag acute risks such as withdrawal syndromes, overdose potential, and safeguarding concerns that necessitate immediate escalation
• Develop clear, actionable written guidance suitable for non-specialist audiences, with explicit clinical rationale grounded in current standards and guidelines
• Compare your clinical assessments against peer input and published best practices to ensure rigor and consistency

What We're Looking For

• 3–5+ years of post-certification clinical experience working directly with adolescents affected by substance use disorders
• Clinical specialty in addiction medicine, child and adolescent psychiatry, or child and adolescent psychology with primary focus on substance use
• Active, unrestricted clinical license or professional registration with recent adolescent caseload experience (within the past two years)
• Demonstrated proficiency using adolescent-specific substance use screening and severity tools such as CRAFFT, S2BI, DSM-5 criteria, and ASAM placement criteria
• Working knowledge of medication for opioid use disorder protocols and withdrawal management approaches for patients under 18
• Research-standard written English proficiency (native speaker or IELTS 7.5+ overall with 7.0+ writing, TOEFL 100+, Cambridge C1–C2, or equivalent)
• Motivational interviewing training, adolescent inpatient or crisis intervention experience, and history of developing clinical guidelines or peer-reviewed publications in youth substance use disorders are valued but not required
