Engineering Manager, Data & Analytics

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential SaaS organization seeking an Engineering Manager for their Data & Analytics team. In this player-coach role, you will lead a team of 4-5 engineers while remaining technically hands-on. This position requires someone with a strong senior data engineering background who is ready to step into people leadership.

You will own the team's delivery, drive stakeholder alignment, and provide the technical depth needed to develop your team. Working closely with the Director of Engineering and product stakeholders, you will manage sequencing, prioritization, and roadmap negotiation with the technical grounding to make sound decisions and mentor engineers day to day.

Key responsibilities include:

• Leading and developing a team of 4-5 engineers through coaching, unblocking delivery, and building a product-minded data engineering culture
• Owning the team's roadmap sequencing, negotiating priorities with product stakeholders, and finding constructive compromises
• Balancing platform and product demands as the team operates across data platform and product delivery simultaneously
• Guiding the team through an active transition in data streaming with hands-on experience
• Raising the bar on data modeling practices across the team
• Driving cultural and technical shifts toward distributed data ownership, helping product teams progressively own their own data
• Collaborating with the broader staff engineering community on cross-cutting architectural decisions
• Building foundations for AI data governance, including guardrails, access control, and safety for AI agents interacting with data

What We're Looking For

Must-have qualifications:

• Proven experience at Staff Engineer level or equivalent in a data engineering context with deep technical expertise
• Genuine player-coach mindset with desire to transition into people leadership
• Strong stakeholder management skills with ability to negotiate confidently and reach workable compromises with product teams
• Solid data modeling skills and credibility to make it a team-wide standard
• Experience managing or developing engineers, coaching technical fundamentals and growing product thinking
• Strong communication skills and ability to drive cultural shifts toward distributed, self-service data ownership
• Comfort operating across both platform and product delivery contexts

Nice to have:

• Experience with data governance for AI agents, including guardrails, access control, and safety considerations for agentic analytics
• Familiarity with data lakes, semantic layers, and orchestration tooling at scale
• Experience in a product-led B2B SaaS environment
• Hands-on streaming experience with technologies like Kafka or Flink
