About This Opportunity

Our talent team is representing a confidential fintech organization that is building next-generation financial technology products used by millions across multiple markets. They are seeking a Staff Software Engineer to own technical direction and execution for major systems at scale.

This is a hands-on technical leadership role where you'll design systems, write code, and drive critical engineering work from concept through production. You'll be solving complex engineering problems while raising the technical bar across the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Own technical design and execution for major products, systems, and engineering initiatives
  • Design scalable, reliable systems across backend, frontend, APIs, databases, and infrastructure
  • Build alongside the team through hands-on coding, prototyping, code reviews, debugging, and production problem-solving
  • Drive architecture decisions and trade-offs balancing speed, scalability, reliability, cost, and maintainability
  • Transform ambiguous product requirements into clear technical solutions and actionable execution plans
  • Elevate engineering quality through improved system design, testing, security, observability, and development practices
  • Lead technically critical initiatives and mentor engineers across multiple teams

What We're Looking For

  • 7+ years of software engineering experience building and shipping production systems
  • Deep expertise in backend, frontend, distributed systems, APIs, databases, or cloud infrastructure
  • Strong system design and architecture skills for complex or high-scale environments
  • Excellent coding ability with commitment to remaining hands-on in implementation
  • Proven track record of technically leading major engineering projects from design through production deployment
  • Ability to make sound technical trade-offs, influence engineering peers, and solve complex production challenges
  • Strong English communication skills for working across global teams
  • Based in or able to work from the United Kingdom

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience scaling engineering teams, systems, or development practices through significant organizational growth
  • Experience operating across multiple products, markets, or geographic regions

Work arrangement: This is a hybrid role requiring at least 3 days per week in the local office, with flexibility to work remotely on remaining days.
