Senior Maintenance Technician

Washburn University is seeking a Senior Maintenance Technician to join our Facilities Services team in Topeka, Shawnee County. This is a full-time opportunity to maintain and repair essential campus infrastructure and systems.

About This Position

As a Senior Maintenance Technician with Washburn University, you'll be a skilled, hands-on professional responsible for the upkeep and repair of campus facilities and equipment. Working in our Facilities Services department, you'll help keep the university's buildings, systems, and infrastructure functioning reliably for students, faculty, and staff every day.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on building systems, mechanical equipment, and facility infrastructure
• Diagnose and troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and coordinate effective solutions
• Respond to maintenance requests and work orders across campus in a timely manner
• Inspect facilities regularly to identify maintenance needs before they become urgent
• Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, repairs, and equipment performance
• Mentor and support junior maintenance staff when needed
• Follow all safety protocols, building codes, and regulatory requirements

What You Bring

• Proven experience as a maintenance technician or in a related skilled trade
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities
• Proficiency with hand tools and knowledge of mechanical systems
• Background in building maintenance, HVAC, plumbing, electrical work, or related systems
• Ability to work independently and take ownership of assigned projects
• Excellent communication and customer service skills
• Reliability, attention to detail, and a genuine commitment to safety
• High school diploma or equivalent; relevant trade certifications a plus
