About the Role

As a Mobile Veterinarian with Heartstrings Pet Hospice, you'll provide in-home veterinary services centered on compassionate end-of-life care, euthanasia, and hospice support. You'll serve pets and their families across a service area including Poughkeepsie, Vernon Township, Port Jervis, Ridgebury, Suffern, Hamburg, and nearby areas throughout New York. • Perform humane euthanasia procedures with skill, empathy, and sensitivity to the human-animal bond
  • Develop personalized care plans and communicate treatment options clearly with pet owners and families

  • Work independently across your service territory while building strong community relationships

What We're Looking For

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent veterinary degree from an accredited institution
  • Current veterinary license to practice in New York State
  • Strong communication skills and emotional intelligence, especially in sensitive end-of-life situations
  • Deep compassion for animals and genuine empathy for families during difficult transitions
  • Ability to work independently and manage your own schedule within designated service areas
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
  • Commitment to providing dignified, high-quality veterinary care

Build the skills for this role

Prioritize: small-animal clinical judgment; palliative and pain management; client communication in grief; mobile practice logistics; and clear documentation of end-of-life plans and aftercare options. No certification list was provided for this posting.

Be ready to discuss difficult quality-of-life conversations, how you support grieving clients, mobile-visit workflow and safety, and why in-home hospice fits your veterinary practice style.

Strong fit if you want mobile, compassion-heavy vet work in the Poughkeepsie area and are comfortable with hospice and in-home euthanasia; less ideal if you prefer clinic-based surgery or high-caseload general practice only.
