About this role & career path
New-grad medicine RN roles commonly lead to stronger med-surg competence, charge or specialty tracks, and longer-term options within a large system (ICU, oncology, ambulatory) once competencies and licensure requirements are solid.
Build the skills for this role
Prioritize RN licensure readiness, med-surg fundamentals, infection control, and EHR charting. Free learning options from the provided list: Saylor Academy — Health Sciences courses (free); Coursera — audit-track healthcare courses (free to learn).

Be ready for clinical judgment scenarios (sepsis, fall risk, pain, decompensation), teamwork under preceptorship, and why medicine nursing fits you as a new grad. Ask about orientation length, nurse-to-patient ratios, and support for first-year RNs at YNHHS.
Strong fit if you want structured new-grad growth in a large Connecticut health system and prefer hands-on inpatient medicine over remote or outpatient-only work.
