Virtual School Counselor (2026-2027 School Year)

Join ACCEL Schools as a Virtual School Counselor at Jefferson Classical Academy of Ohio for the 2026-2027 school year. This full-time position provides comprehensive counseling and academic advising in our tuition-free classical school serving grades K–8. Ohio residency is required.

About the Role

We seek an experienced counselor committed to nurturing student growth—intellectually, emotionally, and academically—through a comprehensive support framework. Combining online engagement with face-to-face outreach, you'll deliver counseling services from proactive skill-building to responsive interventions. Working alongside teachers, administrators, and families, you'll ensure every student has a clear pathway to academic and personal success.

Your Responsibilities

• Facilitate individual and small-group guidance sessions on academic planning, social skills, and personal development
• Assess and respond to student needs through tailored counseling programs and targeted interventions
• Evaluate transcripts for transfer students and recommend appropriate course placement
• Monitor and update student transcripts for active learners, advising on credit completion and academic progress
• Develop and maintain personalized graduation pathway plans aligned with each student's goals
• Teach career exploration and college and career readiness, supporting students in building comprehensive career plans
• Deliver social-emotional learning instruction to build resilience and interpersonal skills
• Build and maintain Section 504 accommodation plans in compliance with federal law
• Interpret assessment data to recommend academic supports and intervention strategies
• Travel throughout Ohio to participate in testing events, school activities, and professional engagement
• Support additional school initiatives and professional responsibilities as assigned

What We're Looking For

• Current, valid state school counselor license or credential
• Bachelor's degree with one year of professional experience in school counseling, student advising, or educational support services (or equivalent combination)
• Demonstrated knowledge of the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) model and comprehensive school counseling frameworks
• Proven experience delivering instruction and support in online, hybrid, or virtual K–12 learning environments
• Thorough understanding of federal, state, and local education laws, including mandatory reporting obligations
• Working proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace tools
• Ability to maintain confidentiality while handling sensitive student information with sound judgment
• Capacity to respond thoughtfully to complex emotional or behavioral situations using evidence-based approaches
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for collaborating with students, families, and educators
• Ability to manage competing priorities and work efficiently under deadlines
• Customer service mindset and commitment to supporting families and students
• Comfort working independently and as an engaged team member
• Willingness to pass thorough federal and state criminal background screenings
