About This Position

As a Utility Service Worker I/II with the City of Orlando, you'll be an essential member of our operations team, responsible for the day-to-day maintenance, repair, and inspection of utility systems. This role combines hands-on fieldwork with attention to detail, requiring both physical capability and technical knowledge. Whether you're starting your career in utilities (Level I) or bringing relevant experience (Level II), you'll work in a structured environment that supports professional development and safety.

Your Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain utility equipment and infrastructure at assigned field sites
• Conduct routine meter readings, system inspections, and preventive maintenance
• Respond to service requests and perform emergency repairs as needed
• Document work activities, maintain service logs, and file reports accurately
• Follow all safety protocols and maintain compliance with city and regulatory standards
• Communicate effectively with customers, contractors, and fellow team members
• Assist with construction projects and system upgrades in the field

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
• Ability to perform physical labor in outdoor field conditions
• Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn utility systems
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Relevant utility or construction experience is a plus for Level II applicants
