Tech Lead (m/f/d)

Responsibilities

We are representing a profitable Berlin-based SaaS company seeking a Tech Lead to own both technical delivery and people leadership for a product engineering team of 3–4 engineers.

In this hybrid role, you will spend approximately half your time on hands-on technical work—architecture, development, code reviews, and critical projects—while dedicating the other half to enabling your team's growth and effectiveness.

Your day-to-day will include:

• Contributing directly to architecture, development, code reviews, and important technical projects
• Leading a team of 3–4 engineers with accountability for technical quality, delivery, and team effectiveness
• Collaborating closely with Product Management to understand customer problems, shape solutions, and set priorities
• Establishing clear technical direction while empowering engineers to own decisions and develop judgment
• Conducting regular 1:1s, providing actionable feedback, and supporting each engineer's development
• Removing blockers, managing dependencies, and identifying delivery risks early
• Improving engineering practices and exploring effective uses of AI throughout the development lifecycle
• Contributing to hiring through technical interviews and structured candidate evaluation

What We're Looking For

Backend Engineering Strength: 3+ years as a Senior or Staff Engineer with deep involvement in software development. You are comfortable owning, designing, and building crucial parts of production systems.

JVM Ecosystem Experience: Substantial experience with Java or another JVM language. Familiarity with Kotlin and AWS is a plus, as the backend runs on Kotlin/Quarkus.

People Leadership Readiness: You may have worked in a hybrid Tech Lead role, spent time as an Engineering Manager, or be taking your first steps in leadership after successfully owning projects and architecture. What matters is a genuine desire to help people grow.

Delivery Focus: You know how to turn product goals into reality in fast-paced environments and are a driver for increasing velocity.

Product Mindset: You care about solving customer problems, engage constructively with product decisions, and find pragmatic, lean solutions.

Clear Communication: You can explain complex technical concepts in detail to engineers and in accessible terms to non-technical stakeholders, creating alignment and motivation.

AI-Assisted Development: You are already using AI in your development workflow and eager to explore how it can improve engineering speed, quality, and team collaboration.

Location: This role is hybrid and based in Berlin with an expectation of regular in-person collaboration. Remote-only arrangements are not suitable for this position.
