Team Lead Airborne Electronics (all genders)

Responsibilities

Our client, a confidential aerospace organization developing next-generation electric aircraft, is seeking a Team Lead for Airborne Electronics to join their technology team in Munich. In this role, you will lead the development of airborne electronic hardware supporting advanced propulsion battery systems for certified electric aircraft.

You will guide a multidisciplinary engineering team responsible for designing, integrating, and verifying electronic systems including battery management, high-voltage monitoring, power distribution, and protection electronics. Your leadership will ensure these mission-critical systems meet the highest standards of safety, reliability, and regulatory compliance for aviation certification.

Your day-to-day responsibilities include:

• Leading design and development of airborne electronic hardware for propulsion battery monitoring, control, protection, and high-voltage power distribution
• Managing and mentoring a team of electronics engineers developing battery management electronics, sensing systems, and power electronics hardware
• Defining system architectures and hardware concepts for battery management electronics, high-voltage monitoring systems, solid-state power controllers, and inverter interface electronics
• Overseeing schematic capture, PCB development, and component selection for both low-voltage control and high-voltage power electronics
• Establishing airborne electronics development processes aligned with aviation standards and certification requirements
• Coordinating cross-disciplinary integration with systems engineering, propulsion, battery, software, and mechanical teams
• Guiding development and validation of power electronics hardware including protection circuits, switching devices, gate drivers, and sensing systems
• Overseeing hardware prototyping, board bring-up, and debugging from concept through flight-representative hardware
• Planning and leading hardware verification activities including functional testing, environmental testing, and EMC validation
• Collaborating on functional safety assessments (FHA, PSSA, SSA) and ensuring hardware meets Design Assurance Levels per ARP4754A/ARP4761 and DO-254
• Owning reliability engineering activities including FMEA/FMECA, reliability prediction, component derating, and worst-case circuit analysis
• Supporting supplier selection and technical evaluation of electronic components and manufacturing partners
• Ensuring design-for-manufacture and design-for-test principles are applied throughout the development lifecycle
• Contributing to certification planning through compliance documentation and design assurance activities

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or related field
• 10+ years of experience in electronic hardware development, preferably in aerospace, aviation, or defense industries
• Proven experience leading or coordinating engineering teams developing airborne electronic hardware
• Strong experience in analog and digital circuit design, schematic capture, and PCB development
• Experience with power electronics hardware including switching devices, gate drivers, protection circuits, or high-voltage control electronics
• Experience with battery management systems, high-voltage monitoring electronics, electric propulsion systems, or power distribution electronics highly desirable
• Proficiency with electronic design automation tools such as Altium Designer, Cadence, or Mentor Graphics
• Knowledge of aerospace electronic development standards such as DO-254, DO-160, MIL-STD-461, or related qualification frameworks beneficial
• Strong leadership, communication, and coordination skills in multidisciplinary engineering environments
• Ability to manage complex technical tasks while supporting project schedules and engineering milestones
• Fluent English language skills essential; German language skills beneficial
