About This Opportunity

Get A Job.ai is representing a confidential observability platform company in their search for a Senior Backend Engineer - Databases to join a new skunkworks initiative focused on AI-native data intelligence systems. This is a remote position based in Germany.

Our client is building an innovative data platform that enables AI agents and enterprise applications to access governed, contextual data at scale. You'll be joining a high-autonomy team working on foundational database infrastructure that supports both analytical and operational workloads across multiple cloud providers.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, test, and operate core database components including ingestion pipelines, query planning, distributed query execution, and storage formats
• Build scalable multi-tenant database architecture with tenant isolation, usage tracking, quotas, audit logging, and background job processing
• Develop APIs and database interfaces that power AI agent retrieval workflows, MCP tools, CLIs, and internal applications
• Instrument services with comprehensive observability including metrics, logs, traces, alerts, and dashboards
• Make pragmatic architectural decisions balancing fast experimentation with long-term reliability as the project evolves from prototype to production
• Shape technical direction for service boundaries, storage choices, API contracts, and deployment patterns
• Collaborate effectively across teams in a highly dynamic environment, taking full ownership of solutions from conception through production deployment

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

• Strong track record building production-grade, user-facing software systems with proven ability to tackle complex engineering problems independently
• Experience with distributed systems, data catalogs, table formats, and query engines
• Mastery of programming languages such as Golang, C++, or Rust
• Demonstrated success delivering software to production that is actively used by end users
• Experience working in cloud-native environments (AWS, GCP, or Azure)
• Familiarity with observability tools for understanding and troubleshooting system behavior
• Ability to work through ambiguity, define scope where requirements are loosely defined, and drive projects forward with minimal supervision
• Strong communication skills with a collaborative, solutions-oriented mindset
• Practical experience with AI technologies and frameworks focused on real-world implementation
• Comfortable with rapid iteration, prototype releases, and pragmatic feedback incorporation

Bonus qualifications:

• Experience building distributed query engines
• Background in data warehouse or data lake development
• Experience developing data engineering tools

Pay

Pay via Get A Job.ai: EUR 97,000 - EUR 121,000 base compensation, with actual compensation determined by experience and skillset as assessed during the interview process.
