Bergen County Special Services School District is hiring a dedicated Teacher of the Handicapped for the 2026–2027 school year at VISIONS Paramus Middle School in New Jersey. About the Role
As a Teacher of the Handicapped, you'll provide specialized instruction and support to students with a range of learning needs and disabilities. Working within Bergen County's special services framework, you'll design and deliver engaging, individualized lessons that help students achieve meaningful progress toward their educational goals.
What You'll Do
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) in collaboration with special education teams, families, and administrators
- Adapt curriculum materials and teaching strategies to meet diverse learning styles and disability-related needs
- Provide direct instruction in academics, life skills, social development, and functional competencies
- Monitor and document student progress regularly, using assessment data to guide instructional planning
- Communicate with families about their child's growth, challenges, and achievements
- Collaborate with related service providers, counselors, and general education staff to ensure coordinated support
- Maintain a safe, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment
