Bergen County Special Services School District is hiring a full-time Teacher Assistant (Autism) at New Bridges Middle/High School to support students with autism spectrum disorder in a specialized educational environment across the 2025-2026 school year.
About the Role
This 10-month, full-time position offers an opportunity to make a direct, meaningful impact on student learning and development in an autism-focused educational setting. You'll work alongside special education teachers and clinicians to create a structured, supportive classroom environment where students with autism can thrive academically and socially.
What You'll Do
- Provide direct instructional and behavioral support to students with autism during daily classroom activities
- Implement evidence-based teaching strategies and individualized behavior support plans under teacher direction
- Assist with classroom routines, transitions, and sensory accommodations tailored to student needs
- Support students' communication, social interaction, and life skills development
- Document and communicate student progress and observations to special education staff
- Maintain a safe, organized, and inclusive classroom environment for all learners
- Collaborate with special education teachers, speech-language pathologists, and support teams

- High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
- Genuine passion for supporting students with autism and developmental disabilities
