Tax Manager – Indirect Tax – Unclaimed Property and Escheat Services

EY is seeking a Tax Manager specializing in Indirect Tax with a focus on Unclaimed Property and Escheat Services for our office in Newburgh Heights, Cuyahoga County. This is a full-time position where you'll lead technical tax compliance and strategic advisory work in one of the most specialized areas of indirect taxation.

About the Role

Unclaimed property and escheat compliance represents a critical but often overlooked dimension of corporate tax obligation. As a Tax Manager in this practice, you'll serve clients navigating complex multistate regulations, dormancy laws, and reporting requirements while helping organizations optimize their unclaimed property positions and minimize exposure.

What You'll Do

• Lead compliance projects and consulting engagements related to unclaimed property holder obligations across multiple jurisdictions
• Develop and execute audit preparation strategies, helping clients understand and respond to state examinations
• Conduct multistate escheat liability assessments and design remediation programs
• Provide regulatory guidance on dormancy thresholds, reporting timelines, and statutory requirements
• Manage client relationships and supervise staff on tax research and implementation
• Advise on voluntary disclosure programs and compliance pathways
• Collaborate with colleagues across tax and consulting to integrate unclaimed property considerations into broader tax strategy

What We're Looking For

• CPA or equivalent professional tax credential
• 5+ years of experience in tax compliance, indirect tax, or unclaimed property services
• Demonstrated expertise in multistate tax rules and unclaimed property regulations
• Strong understanding of escheat laws and state holding requirements
• Excellent technical writing and client communication skills
• Ability to manage projects, mentor junior staff, and lead client engagements independently
• Proficiency with tax research tools and accounting software
• Problem-solving mindset with attention to regulatory detail
