About This Opportunity
Our talent team is representing a confidential aerospace organization seeking a Systems Engineer, Mission Success & Performance. This is a strategic role focused on ensuring predictable mission outcomes across the full lifecycle of satellite platform development and operations. You'll bridge pre-launch readiness activities with post-launch performance optimization, working cross-functionally to scale production and operational capabilities.
This position is based in the United States and requires access to export-controlled information, limiting eligibility to U.S. persons as defined by ITAR/EAR regulations (U.S. citizens, permanent residents, refugees, or asylees).
Responsibilities
- Drive processes and architectural decisions that enable scalable spacecraft production and mission operations, moving beyond traditional quality assurance paradigms
- Partner with mission systems engineers to own and track verification and validation compliance, verification progress, and test coverage campaigns
- Streamline assembly, integration, and test workflows by identifying bottlenecks and championing pragmatic Test Like You Fly standards
- Analyze on-orbit telemetry and platform operations to maximize utility and capacity of deployed assets
- Ensure on-orbit performance matches pre-flight models, monitoring trends and impacts to mission SLAs
- Own the fleet-learning loop for cross-cutting technical issues affecting multiple missions or the platform baseline
- Collaborate with stakeholders to align requirements, resolve interface ambiguities, and synchronize delivery on autonomy and resilience efforts
- Act as technical stakeholder supporting product roadmaps for internal tooling, utilizing software skills to extend baseline code
- Make pragmatic decisions balancing engineering constraints against business outcomes, prioritizing revenue-impacting work
What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications:
- M.S. or higher degree in an engineering field
- 8+ years of experience in multi-disciplinary environments, ideally with exposure to mission design, spacecraft operations, and systems architecture
- Experience with deployed systems operating in high-reliability, performance-critical environments
- Proven business acumen understanding how asset capacity, uptime, and system resilience impact margins and revenue
- Extensive experience in AI&T workflows and V&V strategies, specifically tracking defect escape rates and test coverage
- Strong software skills (Python, Julia) with ability to build upon existing codebases
- Demonstrated ability to model system performance (power, thermal, data throughput) and validate models against real-world, on-orbit data
- Excellent communication and prioritization skills, balancing technical risk with agile business constraints
- Ability to rapidly change roles and responsibilities in a high-paced environment
- Must qualify as a U.S. person under ITAR/EAR regulations
Preferred Qualifications:
- Deep understanding of spacecraft autonomy and fault management architectures, including FMECA and tiered response design
- Ability to write requirements for software teams and review flight software designs
- Experience as lead systems engineer or technical stakeholder in agile environments
- Remote sensing instrument experience across multiple modalities (optical, multispectral, RF)
- Hands-on experience developing or utilizing complex simulation environments
- Familiarity with software engineering tools and processes (version control, code review)
