Subject Matter Expert

About This Role

We are representing a confidential EdTech organization that delivers advanced technical training programs. Our talent team is searching for a Subject Matter Expert to help design and deliver curriculum focused on forward-deployed AI engineering for experienced professionals.

This is a remote opportunity based in Colombia, working approximately 20 hours per week on an asynchronous schedule. You'll collaborate with senior curriculum authors and instructional designers to create project-based learning experiences for working engineers transitioning into client-facing AI deployment roles.

The learners you'll serve are production engineers with 6–15 years of experience—primarily backend developers, senior and staff engineers, and engineering managers—who are actively preparing for forward-deployed engineering positions while they study.

Responsibilities

• Design end-to-end student projects including scope, learning objectives, technical infrastructure, environments, and supporting data resources
• Develop clear submission guidelines and assessment rubrics that enable consistent evaluation by reviewers
• Partner with instructional design professionals to ensure projects are pedagogically effective, well-paced, and appropriately challenging
• Research and validate technical solutions and tooling to keep curriculum aligned with current industry practices
• Support commercial teams by providing technical training on course content and graduate capabilities

What We're Looking For

Required:

• 7+ years of professional engineering experience at senior level or above (Senior/Lead/Staff Engineer, Forward Deployed Engineer, Solutions Architect, or technical lead on customer-facing delivery)
• Proven track record of owning client or enterprise deployments from initial engagement through production launch and adoption
• Hands-on experience with databases and infrastructure for running projects in cloud environments, including containers, version control, and CI systems
• Ability to decompose complex technical work into well-scoped, assessable tasks with defined difficulty levels
• Excellent written English communication skills for creating clear, unambiguous instructional materials
• Experience collaborating cross-functionally and explaining technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
• Background in mentoring, teaching, tutoring, or code review

Preferred:

• Prior experience in educational technology or curriculum development
• Experience designing rubrics or assessment frameworks
