Special Education Teacher | Berkeley, Illinois

What This Role Involves

As a Special Education Teacher in Berkeley, you'll work with students who have individualized education programs (IEPs) and other support plans. You'll develop differentiated instruction strategies, adapt curriculum materials, and create inclusive learning experiences. Your work will directly impact student academic progress, social-emotional development, and preparation for success beyond the classroom.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) in collaboration with parents, special education coordinators, and general education teachers
• Provide direct instruction in core academic subjects using evidence-based special education practices and differentiated teaching strategies
• Monitor and document student progress toward IEP goals and adjust instruction based on ongoing assessment data
• Foster a positive, inclusive classroom environment that supports the academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs of all learners
• Communicate regularly with families about their child's progress and maintain collaborative relationships with school staff
• Maintain accurate records, attend IEP meetings, and ensure compliance with special education requirements

What We're Looking For

• Valid Illinois state teaching certification in Special Education or equivalent credential
• Bachelor's degree in Special Education, Education, or a related field
• Demonstrated experience working with students with disabilities in an educational setting
• Strong communication skills and ability to partner effectively with families and colleagues
• Commitment to inclusive education and evidence-based instructional practices
• Ability to manage complex IEP documentation and meet compliance requirements
