Merck is hiring a Virology (HIV) Community Medical Scientific Liaison and Regional Associate Director for the West Region, based in Sacramento, California. This full-time position offers the opportunity to advance HIV care and prevention science while leading field-based medical education and strategic engagement across the western United States.
About the Role
As a Medical Science Liaison and Regional Associate Director focused on virology and HIV, you'll serve as a trusted scientific authority bridging Merck's research and clinical expertise with healthcare providers, infectious disease specialists, and community health organizations throughout the West Region. This role combines hands-on field engagement with regional leadership responsibilities in supporting scientific initiatives and relationship development.
What You'll Do
- Design and deliver evidence-based medical education to infectious disease clinicians, primary care providers, and community health workers on current HIV treatment advances and prevention approaches
- Gather real-world field intelligence from healthcare settings, community organizations, and provider networks to inform internal scientific strategy and product development
- Build and sustain relationships with regional key opinion leaders, hospital systems, community health centers, and advocacy organizations working in HIV medicine
- Support healthcare provider discussions on treatment value, health economics, and patient access pathways for HIV therapeutics
- Represent Merck at regional medical conferences, professional association meetings, and community health forums
- Document and analyze field insights and stakeholder feedback to guide regional and corporate-level decision-making
- Coordinate scientific support activities and contribute to research and educational initiatives across the West Region
What We're Looking For
- Advanced degree in life sciences, pharmacology, infectious disease, medicine, or public health (PharmD, MD, MS, or equivalent)
- Substantive expertise in virology, HIV science, infectious disease treatment, or prevention medicine
- Prior experience in a Medical Science Liaison, clinical specialist, community health, or related field-based role
- Excellent scientific communication skills and ability to translate complex concepts for diverse professional audiences
- Strong relationship-building and stakeholder engagement abilities
- Willingness to travel throughout the West Region as required
- Knowledge of the US healthcare system and community health infrastructure
