Software Engineer (AI Tooling & Enablement)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential ASX-listed technology organization based in Sydney, Australia. Our client is building a transformative AI tooling and enablement platform that will fundamentally change how their engineering, product, and design teams work. This is a high-leverage role focused on creating shared infrastructure that makes every developer faster, safer, and more effective through AI-powered workflows.

You'll be joining a platform engineering team that treats fellow engineers as customers, building the agentic harness and software factory that powers development across the organization. This includes identity systems, audit logging, plugin registries, safety controls, and AI agent integrations that span the entire software development lifecycle.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, ship, and maintain platform features including plugins, skills, MCP integrations, internal AI-enabled CLIs, and scaffolding with robust testing and observability
• Improve development experience across the SDLC through better tooling, higher test coverage, and cleaner code structures
• Implement agent tooling infrastructure: tool-use, scoped permissions, error handling, and automated verification via Playwright and Maestro
• Instrument AI agent behavior and platform metrics in observability tools like Honeycomb
• Troubleshoot complex AI tooling issues across both platform and product domains
• Work with version control and CI/CD pipelines, safely managing deployments and rollbacks
• Contribute to production infrastructure on AWS/Kubernetes using Terraform
• Validate AI outputs for correctness and appropriateness, sharing learnings with engineering peers

What We're Looking For

• 3+ years of professional software development experience writing clean, tested, maintainable code
• Hands-on experience with agentic coding tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot or similar
• Experience building MCP servers, agent skills, or other agentic integrations
• Strong background in writing automated evaluations and tests (unit, integration, and end-to-end)
• Proficiency with containerization using Docker and running workloads on Kubernetes
• Solid understanding of CI/CD principles and git-based version control practices
• Experience with modern languages such as TypeScript/JavaScript and/or Python (though we're flexible on language background)
• Track record building and integrating APIs with attention to developer experience
• Experience working in AWS or comparable cloud environments and using core cloud services
• Eagerness to go deep on LLMs, AI agents, MCP protocols, and prompt engineering
