Software Engineer

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential AI biotech organization at the forefront of pharmaceutical research and biological discovery. Our talent team is seeking Software Engineers at multiple seniority levels (Intermediate & Senior) to join their Paris office or work remotely within France, the UK, or Germany.

In this role, you will build agentic AI products for biomedical researchers by combining robust engineering practices with cutting-edge AI technologies. You'll work on real-time systems that integrate large language models, tool-calling capabilities, and interactive UI elements, ensuring users can seamlessly engage with complex domain-specific data.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain scalable, reliable AI systems for biological research applications
• Collaborate within a multi-disciplinary team including product managers, designers, engineers, machine learning specialists, and biomedical scientists
• Drive technical decisions and provide context-aware solutions for AI systems in research environments
• Lead development of AI agents and contribute to core platform components
• Optimize analytical workflows including analytical databases (DuckDB), distributed computing (AWS Athena, Trino), and data platform integrations
• Manage deployment and integration of agents within broader data platform infrastructure
• Leverage and pioneer evaluation methodologies to ensure continuous product improvement
• Experiment with cutting-edge orchestration patterns, fine-tuning, specialized monitoring, and feedback loops
• Foster team growth through code reviews, technical discussions, and knowledge sharing
• Participate in shared on-call rotation

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

• Deep understanding of system architecture, infrastructure design, and building resilient distributed systems including complex analytical workflows
• Extensive experience with production environments: continuous deployment, high availability, observability, and security
• Strong collaborative skills with an open, pragmatic mindset; ability to thrive in multidisciplinary environments with diverse backgrounds
• Clear and effective communication skills to translate technical complexity into actionable team decisions
• Curiosity and ideally hands-on experience with AI systems—from integrating LLMs to evaluating their performance in real-world workflows
• Passion for user experience and product thinking beyond system internals
• Proficiency with Claude Code and other AI software engineering tools
• Fluent English, both written and spoken
• Experience with Python, Kubernetes, and AWS

Preferred qualifications:

• Experience working with spatial transcriptomics data
• Knowledge of technologies for distributed computing, databases, and serialization
• Front-end development experience (role is primarily back-end oriented)
• Direct experience with data orchestration tools such as Apache Airflow
