Senior Waveform Architect (All Genders)

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential defense technology client seeking a Senior Waveform Architect to lead critical communications infrastructure for autonomous platforms operating in contested environments. In this role, you will:

• Own the complete design and implementation of the physical layer (PHY) for tactical anti-jam radio systems, including waveform architecture, modulation schemes, coding, framing, and synchronisation from concept through real-time execution
• Engineer robust solutions specifically designed to maintain operational capability under severe electronic countermeasure and jamming scenarios
• Architect multi-node long-range link budgets for complex communication networks
• Define and expose critical IQ, phase, and timing observables required by Direction Finding capabilities
• Establish development standards and guidelines for the team, including HDL and verification conventions and FPGA build flows
• Drive hands-on implementation while maintaining strategic oversight of long-term technology roadmaps

What We're Looking For

Our client requires a technically authoritative leader with deep expertise in waveform design and implementation:

• Proven track record designing PHY architectures and deploying them onto FPGA/SoC hardware in real-time applications
• Strong quantitative command of synchronisation techniques, estimation theory, Forward Error Correction (FEC), and link budget analysis
• Hands-on experience debugging and validating real radio links against physical hardware
• Systems-minded approach with ability to work across disciplines without organizational silos

Highly valued experience includes:

• Anti-jamming techniques and Low Probability of Intercept/Detection (LPI/LPD) design in tactical contexts
• Professional background with recognized industry leaders in communications or defense sectors
• Publicly verifiable PHY implementation work, such as custom GNU Radio out-of-tree modules or contributions to RFSoC toolchains
