About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential defense technology client based in Munich. They are seeking a Tactical Data Link Expert to support the integration and deployment of critical military communication capabilities across autonomous systems and command-and-control environments.

This is a hands-on technical role working with mission-critical systems deployed in active operational settings. You'll be part of a small, senior team building software and integration solutions that connect operators to autonomous platforms in real time across contested environments.

Responsibilities

• Support the integration of tactical data link capabilities including Link 16, Link 22, SATCOM, and other military communication systems into unmanned platforms and ground control station environments
• Define communication concepts that enable reliable data exchange between unmanned systems, command centers, allied platforms, and external mission systems
• Translate operational and military communication requirements into technical integration requirements, interface definitions, and test specifications
• Collaborate with engineering, software, network, RF, and ground control station teams to align interfaces, protocols, data flows, and integration constraints
• Support SATCOM and beyond-line-of-sight connectivity integration activities
• Plan and execute lab tests, field tests, interoperability checks, and validation activities for tactical data link setups
• Contribute to secure, robust communication architectures considering availability, latency, data integrity, authentication, and operational constraints
• Coordinate with external suppliers, partners, military stakeholders, and internal teams to assess data link options and technical feasibility
• Document data link concepts, interface specifications, configuration settings, integration dependencies, test results, and operational recommendations

What We're Looking For

Required:

• Approximately 5 years of professional experience in tactical communications, military data links, SATCOM, RF systems, communication engineering, systems engineering, or related technical field
• Practical understanding of military data link technologies such as Link 16, Link 22, SATCOM, or comparable tactical communication systems
• Ability to understand complex communication architectures involving platforms, radios, antennas, modems, networks, command systems, and software interfaces
• Strong interoperability mindset with understanding of how different systems exchange data and how interfaces are defined, tested, and validated
• Ability to translate between operational users, engineering teams, software developers, RF specialists, suppliers, and program stakeholders
• Experience supporting technical tests, integration trials, validation activities, or operational demonstrations with structured documentation
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to identify communication issues, integration gaps, and practical solutions
• Solid English communication skills required; German skills for technical communication and documentation are a plus
• Ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams and communicate clearly in fast-moving engineering environments
• Ability to obtain appropriate security clearance

Preferred:

• Experience in defense, military communications, command-and-control systems, aerospace, naval systems, UAVs, or mission-critical operational environments
• Prior exposure to NATO communication standards, tactical networks, joint fires, air defense, command posts, or battlefield management systems
• Experience with SATCOM terminals, tactical radios, MANET, IP-based tactical networks, or professional communication equipment
• Experience integrating unmanned systems into wider military communication architectures
• Understanding of network security, encryption concepts, authentication, routing, IP networking, and secure data exchange
