About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential SaaS organization in Germany that is building production-grade AI infrastructure for enterprise clients. While many companies are still demonstrating prototypes, this organization's customers are already deploying AI systems at scale—working with their own data, under their compliance frameworks, and hosted in Germany.

As a Senior Fullstack Engineer, you will own core features and architectural decisions across the platform—from retrieval systems to frontend interfaces. You'll work in an environment where AI-assisted development is not a talking point but a daily practice, using coding agents as part of your standard toolkit with genuine creative freedom to shape technical direction.

Responsibilities

• Design and scale distributed systems and microservices with focus on maintainability, stability, and long-term viability
• Build production-ready AI features including RAG-based knowledge systems, department-specific AI applications, voice interfaces, translation services, and analytics capabilities
• Develop across the full stack: build performant APIs, model databases, and implement modern frontend interfaces from retrieval layer to user experience
• Implement multi-tenancy data models with role-based permissions, ensuring no unauthorized access through AI interfaces; integrate encryption, data minimization, and auditability from the start
• Establish observability for AI feature quality, cost, and behavior in production through evaluations, monitoring, and guardrails that maintain stability and efficiency at scale
• Evolve existing systems by creating clear structures and reducing technical debt where it becomes expensive long-term, while accepting it where it doesn't
• Work routinely with coding assistants and agents, extracting more value than autocomplete while understanding their limitations; test new tools and workflows early, evaluate honestly, and establish team standards for effective use
• Collaborate closely with product owners, UX designers, and consultants to translate real customer use cases into technical solutions; make architectural decisions transparent and advance junior developers through code reviews and mentoring

What We're Looking For

• Minimum 5 years experience developing complex software systems, ideally in AI, SaaS, or cloud environments
• Strong TypeScript expertise with Node.js experience, ideally including frameworks like NestJS
• Deep knowledge of software architecture for distributed systems—microservices, API design, and scaling patterns
• Frontend experience with frameworks such as Vue.js and solid understanding of full-stack relationships
• Strong database skills (e.g., PostgreSQL) including data modeling and performance optimization
• Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS), Docker, and operating SaaS applications
• AI-assisted development as standard practice: routine work with coding assistants and agents (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot), understanding their boundaries and critically reviewing generated code rather than trusting it blindly
• Active engagement with emerging tools: you proactively test new tools, models, and workflows, bringing the valuable ones to your team—experience with agentic setups (coding agents in cloud environments, MCP integrations, automated reviews) is a strong advantage
• Deeper understanding of modern AI/LLM concepts including RAG, function calling, embeddings, or agents
• Clean code, testing, and code review practices as baseline expectations; willingness to develop junior engineers through reviews and mentoring
• Ability to make technical decisions and defend them clearly in both German and English
• Experience with GDPR, ISO 27001, or EU AI Act is advantageous

Critical mindset: Frameworks can be learned. What matters most is taking ownership, thinking about the product holistically, constructively questioning requirements, and making technical decisions you can justify two years later—pragmatically balanced between perfection and velocity. In practice, this means designing architecture for a new feature in the morning, reviewing pull requests at midday, coding in the afternoon, and advancing the team's capabilities throughout.
