Senior Quality Engineer, Chassis and Powertrain

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential automotive engineering organization seeking a Senior Quality Engineer to drive quality performance across chassis systems and selected powertrain components throughout the full product lifecycle.

In this role, you will own quality outcomes from supplier development and production readiness through launch, current production, and issue resolution. You will work closely with engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, and supplier partners to identify quality risks early, develop effective solutions, and ensure robust implementation.

Supplier Development & Production Readiness:

• Support supplier selection by assessing manufacturing capability, process maturity, and identifying key quality risks before nomination
• Lead or coordinate APQP, PPAP, audit, and production-readiness activities
• Review manufacturing controls including FMEAs, Control Plans, inspection strategy, process capability, and validation evidence
• Drive supplier-development actions and ensure significant changes receive appropriate validation before implementation

Supplier Execution & Current Quality:

• Own quality engineering follow-up for assigned suppliers and components post-launch, monitoring performance and emerging risks
• Lead containment, root-cause analysis, and corrective action for significant supplier concerns, verifying sustainable prevention
• Determine when supplier visits, additional controls, or escalation are required using risk and data-driven approaches
• Coordinate incoming inspection requirements for assigned parts when needed for issue containment
• Provide execution support for selected powertrain suppliers while maintaining alignment with system owners

Product Quality & Ticket Management:

• Own the product-quality ticket landscape for assigned vehicle systems, including issues, enhancements, and field action requests
• Ensure concerns are clearly defined, prioritized, and progressed with appropriate containment and corrective action
• Coordinate resolution across cross-functional teams and suppliers, escalating significant risks when necessary
• Maintain alignment between supplier-level actions and product-level resolution

Quality Documentation & Standards:

• Support development and continuous improvement of quality engineering standards using lessons learned from practical experience
• Ensure requirements are understood and consistently deployed internally and within the supplier base
• Capture lessons learned into standards covering qualification, APQP/PPAP, inspection, and structured problem solving

What We're Looking For

Essential Qualifications:

• Strong ownership and track record of taking complex issues through to effective closure with ability to work independently
• Practical experience in Quality Engineering, Supplier Quality, Manufacturing Engineering, or related technical environment
• Hands-on experience working with suppliers and manufacturing processes with sound structured problem-solving capability
• Working knowledge of APQP, PPAP, FMEA, Control Plans, and production-process qualification
• Ability to understand engineering drawings, specifications, and technical requirements and translate them into practical quality controls
• Confidence working cross-functionally and constructively challenging suppliers or stakeholders while maintaining effective relationships
• Ability to prioritize in fast-moving environments, combining practical data-driven approaches with sound judgment
• Strong communication skills and willingness to develop detailed product and manufacturing process understanding

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience within automotive, motorsport, aerospace, or other high-complexity manufacturing environments
• Chassis or powertrain experience (advantageous but not essential with strong transferable technical capability)
• Experience with low-volume, high-value, high-performance, and technically complex products
• Previous GD&T experience is a plus

Location & Work Environment:

• Remote, with UK-based execution support required for selected activities
