Senior Python Data Scraping Engineer (Freelance)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential technology organization seeking a Senior Python Data Scraping Engineer for a specialized freelance engagement. Our client operates in the AI and data infrastructure space, and this role will focus on building and maintaining robust data extraction workflows for real-world applications.

This is a remote, freelance position based in Romania, requiring approximately 10–20 hours per week during active project phases. You'll work independently to deliver accurate, structured datasets from complex web sources.

Responsibilities

• Design and execute end-to-end data extraction workflows across complex websites, ensuring complete coverage and reliable delivery of structured datasets
• Build custom scraping solutions using Python and modern libraries to handle dynamic, JavaScript-rendered content and evolving site architectures
• Implement data quality standards through validation checks, cross-source consistency controls, and systematic verification prior to delivery
• Scale scraping operations for large datasets using efficient batching or parallelization techniques
• Monitor pipeline stability, handle failures gracefully, and maintain resilience against minor site structure changes
• Navigate anti-bot mechanisms and adapt extraction approaches to handle interactive web sources

What We're Looking For

Required Experience:

• 5+ years of relevant experience in data engineering, web scraping, automation, or software development
• Strong proficiency in Python web scraping using BeautifulSoup, Selenium, or similar frameworks
• Proven ability to extract data from complex structures including hierarchies, archived pages, and inconsistent HTML
• Solid background in data cleaning, normalization, and validation, delivering structured outputs (CSV, JSON, Google Sheets)
• Experience handling dynamic content (JavaScript, AJAX, infinite scroll) and working with APIs via proxies
• Demonstrated ability to overcome anti-bot mechanisms and navigate dynamic site structures at scale
• Upper-intermediate English proficiency (B2) or above

Technical Requirements:

• Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS or equivalent) and containerization (Docker) in production workflows
• Hands-on experience with LLM frameworks (LangChain, OpenRouter, or similar) applied to automation tasks
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy
• Self-directed work ethic with ability to troubleshoot independently

Preferred:

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, or related technical fields
• GitHub portfolio demonstrating relevant work
