About This Opportunity
We are representing a confidential AI infrastructure organization in their search for a Senior Product Manager, Search Infrastructure based in London. Our client operates at the intersection of AI agents and web-scale search, serving millions of developers and Fortune 500 companies running production agent workflows.
This role owns search infrastructure as a product. You'll set quality bars for large-scale retrieval systems, balance tradeoffs between relevance, freshness, latency, and cost, and shape the evolution of an index built specifically for AI agents rather than human searchers.
This is a hands-on senior individual contributor position reporting to the Director of Product. You'll work directly with search engineering, research, evaluation, and customer success teams to define what "good" means across use cases and drive the roadmap for next-generation search infrastructure.
Responsibilities
- Set quality standards and release criteria for search products across different use cases, working closely with the evaluation team on what to measure and why
- Own tradeoffs between depth, latency, and cost across search offerings, making decisions explicit and defensible
- Define the direction of the search index: coverage requirements, freshness targets, and quality benchmarks
- Build a strategic view on how search infrastructure should evolve as AI agents become the primary consumer, translating that into a concrete roadmap
- Understand competitive alternatives and prioritize work that addresses meaningful gaps
- Collaborate with customer success and engage directly with customers to identify where results fall short in real workflows, turning feedback into actionable quality priorities
- Partner with data and vertical product owners on corpus requirements and result shaping per industry
What We're Looking For
Required:
- 5+ years product management experience with significant time spent on high-scale search or ranking systems (web search, feed ranking at large social platforms, or large ad engines)
- Prior background as an engineer, ML engineer, or researcher on production systems in those domains—this is mandatory, not preferred; you'll be making tradeoff decisions alongside senior search engineers and need comparable technical depth
- Direct experience shipping search or ranking changes end-to-end, including evaluation design and post-launch analysis
- Strong data foundation: ability to design experiments, critically interpret evaluation results, and distinguish genuine quality improvements from noise
- Product judgment matching your technical depth: capability to decide what to build, what to defer, and defend those decisions to both engineers and customers
- Deep understanding of LLMs, AI agents, and how retrieval integrates into agentic workflows
- Comfort operating in ambiguity, moving fluidly between strategy and execution
- Ability to influence and align cross-functional stakeholders without formal authority
Bonus qualifications:
- Advanced expertise in information retrieval, NLP, or applied machine learning
- Experience with index tiering, sharding, freshness pipelines, or cost-per-query optimization at scale
- Background in hybrid retrieval, semantic and lexical search, re-ranking, or human evaluation programs
- Experience in API-first or developer-platform businesses running both self-serve and enterprise motions
- Track record in high-growth technology companies, particularly post-acquisition or startup-within-larger-org environments
