Senior Manager, Manufacturing Engineering

DoorDash USA is seeking a Senior Manager, Manufacturing Engineering in San Francisco, CA for a full-time position leading manufacturing operations and equipment for our autonomous delivery platform, scaling from prototype into high-volume production.

The Opportunity

DoorDash Labs serves as the research and development hub for automation and robotics within DoorDash, building next-generation technologies to enhance last-mile delivery. You'll own the end-to-end manufacturing process for our autonomous delivery vehicles—from how we source and assemble every component through final product validation. This role puts you at the technical frontier of a fast-moving, impact-driven team where you'll establish manufacturing standards, build a team from the ground up, and directly influence how the next generation of delivery vehicles are engineered and produced at scale.

Responsibilities

• Define and oversee the complete manufacturing process lifecycle, including equipment selection, tooling design, fixtures, and assembly work instructions for all major vehicle systems.
• Collaborate with design engineering to embed manufacturability early in development, optimizing each system for assembly efficiency, cost, and yield before production.
• Deploy and manage a manufacturing execution system (MES) that provides full traceability and part serialization across vehicles.
• Qualify and audit suppliers and contract manufacturing partners through on-site process reviews and quality assessments.
• Establish data-driven performance metrics—first-pass yield, unit cost, throughput, defect rates—and lead continuous improvement initiatives to drive results.
• Recruit and mentor manufacturing engineers and technicians, serving as the technical authority on process governance and scaling decisions.

Qualifications

• Strong background in mechanical engineering with hands-on experience managing manufacturing processes for complex, multi-system electromechanical products.
• Demonstrated success taking a product from prototype through ramp to high-volume manufacturing.
• Direct experience with electric propulsion and powertrain design, plus electrical systems fluency to navigate the mechanical-electrical interface.
• Proven ability to develop supplier relationships and drive quality and yield improvements through supplier partnerships.
• Track record of designing for manufacturability—simplifying assembly, reducing material waste and cost, and systematically solving quality problems at their root cause.
• Thrives in a dynamic startup setting; comfortable navigating ambiguity, building capability from scratch, and solving hard technical problems.
