Senior Machine Learning Engineer

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential AI technology organization that is transforming operational planning for frontline businesses across the UK and Europe. Our client has secured significant venture backing and serves over 100 enterprise customers with deployed machine learning systems that drive real business outcomes.

As a Senior Machine Learning Engineer, you'll join a small ML team building forecasting systems that make half-hourly demand predictions for complex operational environments. This is end-to-end ownership: you'll validate data, select models, run user acceptance testing, launch clients, and monitor live performance. You'll also join client calls to ensure the models solve real problems—not just achieve accuracy metrics, but help teams make better operational decisions.

Responsibilities

• Own client ML launches from data validation through post-deployment monitoring
• Build and maintain forecasting models across diverse targets in production environments
• Work directly with clients and industry experts to understand business requirements and ground truth
• Scale existing ML systems from a handful of deployments to hundreds
• Navigate feedback loops, variable environments, and messy real-world data
• Use AI development tools (Claude Code, Cursor, or equivalent) as your standard working mode
• Balance pragmatism with technical excellence—ship iteratively rather than pursuing perfection

What We're Looking For

Required:

• Production ML experience deploying systems that handle messy data and require ongoing monitoring
• Strong ML fundamentals with the ability to reason about trade-offs and make sound judgment calls
• Client-facing deployment experience owning projects end-to-end
• Strong Python programming skills, including the scientific Python stack (numpy, scikit-learn)
• Daily use of AI development tools as your default workflow
• Comfort with context-switching and working across multiple projects in parallel

Preferred:

• Experience with forecasting, time-series analysis, or demand-planning
• Familiarity with Python, scikit-learn, MLflow, Docker, and GCP
• Track record in small teams with wide ownership scope

• Prefer moving into less technical or managerial positions
• Focus on applying specific new technologies rather than solving business problems
• Work best perfecting one project before moving to the next
