About This Opportunity
Our talent team is representing a confidential aerospace technology organization based in Munich. They are developing next-generation electric propulsion systems and need a Senior High-Voltage Airborne Electronics Engineer to lead the design and validation of critical power distribution and protection hardware. This is a rare opportunity to work on cutting-edge airborne systems at the intersection of high-voltage electronics and aviation.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop high-voltage power electronics hardware including distribution units, solid-state power controllers, and DC-DC converters for airborne applications
- Capture, trace, and manage technical requirements systematically throughout the development lifecycle
- Create detailed schematics, PCB layouts, and bills of materials for power electronic systems
- Perform circuit analysis, simulations, and design optimization focusing on thermal performance, EMI/EMC compliance, efficiency, and reliability
- Select and qualify power components including MOSFETs, IGBTs, wide bandgap devices (SiC/GaN), magnetics, and passive components
- Lead prototype builds, bring-up procedures, debugging sessions, and validation testing protocols
- Conduct failure analysis and implement iterative design improvements
- Ensure compliance with aerospace safety and regulatory standards including DO-160, MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-461, and DO-254 processes
- Collaborate closely with firmware, mechanical, manufacturing, procurement, and quality engineering teams
- Support production ramp-up activities, develop manufacturing test procedures, and resolve field issues
- Prepare and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, test reports, and participate in design reviews
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field
- 5+ years of professional experience in power electronics hardware design
- Strong foundation in power electronics theory with proven practical hardware development skills
- Deep expertise in electrical protection systems, power semiconductors, converter topologies, and control methods
- Proficiency with schematic capture and PCB design tools (Altium Designer preferred; OrCAD or KiCad also valuable)
- Hands-on lab experience with oscilloscopes, power supplies, power analyzers, and electronic loads
- Solid understanding of electronics packaging, thermal management strategies, EMI/EMC design, and safety-critical design principles
- Demonstrated ability to independently debug complex hardware issues
- Experience with wide bandgap semiconductors (SiC, GaN) strongly preferred
- Familiarity with simulation tools such as LTspice, PLECS, PSIM, or MATLAB/Simulink
- Knowledge of high-voltage (800V+) and high-power system design and testing
- Prior experience with DO-254 development processes highly desirable
- Background working with aerospace and defense standards (DO-160, MIL-STD series) a significant plus
- Valid driver's license preferred for occasional travel between locations
- Fluent in English; German language skills are a bonus
