Senior Forward Deployed Engineer (Technical Data Architect)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a leading data and AI platform company seeking a Senior Forward Deployed Engineer (Technical Data Architect) for a hybrid role based in London. This is a hands-on, customer-facing position for technical builders who excel at the intersection of engineering excellence and business impact.

As a Forward Deployed Engineer, you'll work directly with enterprise clients to architect and build production-grade data and AI solutions. You'll own technical decisions end-to-end, lead complex implementations, and serve as a trusted technical advisor to strategic accounts. This role combines deep engineering work with customer engagement, requiring someone who can translate business challenges into scalable technical solutions.

Responsibilities

• Lead and deliver production-grade data engineering and AI systems for enterprise clients, including end-to-end architecture design, implementation, and deployment
• Design and build reference architectures, custom applications, data ingestion pipelines, and ML/AI model integrations
• Own architecture and design decisions, ensuring solutions are secure, scalable, and aligned with best practices and customer requirements
• Work collaboratively with project managers, architects, and customer technical teams to deliver engagement objectives on time and within scope
• Embed with customer teams, engaging stakeholders from individual contributors to executives to understand challenges and deliver measurable impact
• Scope technical delivery work alongside engagement managers, managing timelines, specifications, and outcomes
• Create reusable accelerators, frameworks, and documentation that scale impact across multiple accounts
• Provide product feedback and work with support teams to resolve engagement-specific technical issues
• Travel to customer sites approximately 20% of the time

What We're Looking For

• Significant experience in data engineering, data platforms and analytics, or full-stack software development
• Strong coding proficiency in Python, Scala, and/or JavaScript/TypeScript with modern frameworks
• Working knowledge of at least two major cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) with deep expertise in one
• Deep hands-on experience with distributed computing using Apache Spark, including knowledge of Spark runtime internals
• Proven track record designing and deploying performant, production-grade end-to-end data architectures and applications
• Experience with MLOps, ML/AI models, and AI APIs
• Familiarity with CI/CD practices for production deployments
• Strong technical project delivery skills - managing scope, timelines, and measurable outcomes while translating complex concepts into actionable solutions
• Experience working with enterprise clients and navigating conflicts across diverse stakeholder groups
• Excellent documentation and technical communication skills, including whiteboarding complex architectures
• Demonstrated curiosity, adaptability, and eagerness to explore new technologies
• Platform-specific certification is an advantage
