People Operations Lead – 3 month FTC

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential property technology client in their search for a People Operations Lead on an initial 3-month fixed-term contract, with potential for extension or permanent placement. This hybrid role is based in London with 2 days per week in the office and monthly travel to other UK locations (all travel and accommodation fully covered).

This is an unusual and exciting brief. Our client has spent three years transforming their People function and now needs someone to own the operational layer while identifying what comes next. They're looking for a very specific combination: experienced People Operations expertise paired with a professional accountancy background.

This isn't about simply maintaining existing processes. Our client wants someone genuinely curious about how and why things work—someone who spots friction, interrogates data, challenges assumptions, and builds something better. You'll inherit a strong foundation of streamlined processes and modern People technology, but there's significant opportunity to simplify, automate, and improve.

The role includes exploring how AI and agentic workflows can remove repetitive work across onboarding, colleague queries, document management, and reporting. You don't need to arrive as an AI expert, but you should be excited about the possibilities and willing to experiment.

Responsibilities

• Own the People operations, systems, and data infrastructure across the complete colleague lifecycle
• Manage a People Operations Specialist and report directly to the People Director
• Take significant ownership of reward infrastructure, including quarterly pay reviews, salary benchmarking and banding, benefits administration, and gender pay gap reporting
• Continuously identify opportunities to simplify, automate, and improve operational processes
• Collaborate closely with People Partners, Talent, Finance, Payroll, and Technology teams
• Explore and implement AI and automation solutions to enhance People team operations
• Review, redesign, and implement processes based on data-driven insights rather than legacy approaches
• Ensure fundamental People operations run brilliantly while driving continuous improvement
• Travel monthly to other UK offices (Sheffield/Lincoln area) as needed

What We're Looking For

Essential requirements:

• Previous professional experience working as an accountant or in a substantive accountancy role (this is essential for this particular hire)
• Significant People Operations experience with evidence of owning and designing end-to-end processes, not simply operating inherited systems
• Hands-on experience owning or significantly shaping People systems and data using modern HRIS platforms (such as Personio, BambooHR, or similar) and/or headcount planning systems
• Strong analytical skills with advanced Excel capabilities
• Experience across reward and benefits, ideally including ownership of pay review cycles, salary benchmarking, banding, and gender pay gap reporting
• Track record of continuous improvement—spotting friction, identifying root causes, and leading meaningful changes that made processes simpler or more scalable
• Active interest in AI and automation and how they can transform People operations
• Comfort operating in fast-moving environments and collaborating across multiple functions
• Based in or able to commute to London with flexibility for hybrid working and monthly UK travel

Desirable experience:

• Background in high-growth, scale-up, or similarly dynamic environments
• Hands-on experience building or implementing AI/agentic workflows in production use

What you don't need:

• Specific HR qualifications (CIPD etc.)—our client cares more about what you've built, improved, and owned

Working pattern: The role is available full-time (40 hours) or part-time (30-32 hours) for the right candidate.
